Institutions Program

The Institutions Program, in CDPH's Environmental Management Branch in the Division of Drinking Water and Environmental Management, is responsible for conducting environmental health surveys and construction plan reviews of conservation camps, hospitals, youth and adult correctional facilities, fair grounds and other facilities operated by state agencies to determine compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, industry standards and safe operating practices.  

Institutions Program staff work with operators of these facilities to assure safe operating conditions, provides training and offers consultative services to correct deficiencies.  Staff are required to provide consultative and professional environmental health services in the areas of food preparation, housing, ergonomics, medical services, cross-connection control, noise abatement, swimming pool operations, water treatment, solid waste disposal, radon control, vector control, worker safety, hazardous materials management and medical waste management.
