Welcome to the Cancer Detection Section (CDS). The mission of the CDS is to save lives by preventing and reducing the devastating effects of cancer for Californians through education, early detection, diagnosis and treatment, and integrated preventive services, with special emphasis on the underserved. CDS is part of the California Department of Public Health's Chronic Disease and Injury Control Division.

The Every Woman Counts (EWC) program offers a comprehensive training course “Cervical Cancer Screening and Follow-Up” for clinicians who provide cervical cancer screening services. The course is offered on numerous dates and locations throughout California. For more information, please see the Training Center webiste, or contact an EWC Regional Contractor.

EWC helps eligible, low-income California women receive free breast cancer screening and diagnostic services and cervical cancer prevention.

California Colon Cancer Control Program (CCCCP)

About the program

CCCCP is a federally funded program established to increase awareness of colon cancer through public health education.

Unlike many other cancers, colon cancer is preventable, treatable, and beatable through early detection.

Prostate Cancer Treatment Program

About the program

The Prostate Cancer Treatment Program helps underserved men receive free prostate cancer treatment services through IMProving Access, Counseling & Treatment for Californians with Prostate Cancer (IMPACT), which is operated under contract by the University of California, Los Angeles.
