Network for a Healthy California Local Food and Nutrition Education Request for Application
The Network for a Healthy California (Network) of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is releasing the Local Food and Nutrition Education Request for Applications (RFA) LFNE -2010 on February 4, 2009. The Network is pleased to announce this funding opportunity for non-profit, community-based organizations who wish to actively implement innovative nutrition education interventions and promote access to healthy food on behalf of food stamp eligible Californians. The applicants are asked to address three primary objectives including: 1) provide and implement innovative nutrition education activities in organizational settings that address and support anti-hunger, food justice, economic development, community-supported agriculture and cooperative educational models; 2) Provide other Network-funded projects with promising practices regarding nutrition education and food stamp promotion in the context of anti-poverty efforts by provide technical assistance and community leadership to Network-funded projects; and 3) Facilitate program development via the Local Food and Nutrition Education Action Committee (LFNEAC), to enhance nutrition education interventions and the sustainability of promising practices.
The term of the Local Food and Nutrition Education (LFNE) contracts will be October 1, 2009 – September 30, 2012. Approximately $850,000 will be awarded annually with awards of a maximum of $85,000 per contractor per year. The funding is from the United States Department of Agriculture through an interagency agreement with the Department of Social Services and is part of the State plan for Food Stamp Nutrition Education. Funding for the LFNE projects is contingent on the continued availability of funds through the United States Department of Agriculture Food Stamp Nutrition Education Plan.
