NOTICE OF ENFORCEMENT DISCRETION CONCERNING PERFORMANCE OF LINEARITY VERIFICATIONS OF MEDICAL DOSE CALIBRATORS

Effective July 21, 2009.

Due to the current shortage of Tc-99m, the Radiologic Health Branch is temporarily suspending the requirement to perform quarterly dose calibrator linearity verifications as long as the licensee's dose calibrator agrees within +/- 20% with the decay-corrected nuclear pharmacy dosage.  Note that other than the linearity verification exception, dose calibrators must continue to be used to verify dosages in accordance with radioactive materials licenses. This temporary "enforcement discretion" will remain valid pending notification on this website that the enforcement discretion is no longer needed.  A 3-month period following rescission of the temporary enforcement discretion will be allowed before licensees are required to resume dose calibrator linearity verifications. Please periodically check this website for notification of the rescission of this enforcement discretion.
If you have any questions, please contact Ira Scheider at (916) 440-7976 or ira.schneider@cdph.ca.gov.
