Medical Waste Transfer Stations and Treatment Facilities (Onsite and Offsite)
Within the regulatory framework of the Medical Waste Management Act (MWMA), CDPH's Medical Waste Management Program (MWMP) ensures the proper handling and disposal of medical waste by permitting and inspecting medical waste Offsite Treatment Facilities (PDF)
and Transfer Stations (PDF)
throughout the state. MWMP also oversees all Medical Waste Transporters.
For purposes of medical waste management,

“Onsite” means a medical waste treatment facility, or common storage facility on the same or adjacent property as the generator of the medical waste being treated.

“Adjacent” means real property within 400 yards from the property boundary of the existing medical waste treatment facility.

In order to legally store, transfer and treat medical waste in California, complete the relevant areas of the application form for onsite or offsite medical waste facility permit as required by the MWMA.
Submit the completed application, attaching all supporting data and additional information necessary to substantiate your answers and a check (Current Fees (PDF)
) made payable to the “Medical Waste Management Fund”, to:
