Welcome to the State of California

Nuchal Translucency Practitioners

In March 2009, the California Prenatal Screening (PNS) Program expanded to incorporate first-trimester serum analytes and nuchal translucency (NT) examination data to provide first-trimester combined screening for Down syndrome and Trisomy 18. The PNS Program accepts NT data only from NT practitioners who are actively credentialed by the Nuchal Translucency Quality Review Program (NTQR) or the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) and who are registered with the California PNS Program. A full list of registered practitioners is available on the Prenatal Screening Program website, in the Resources for Patients section.

Practitioners may submit their NT data online by creating a Screening Information System (SIS) account. In order to create a SIS account, you must:

  1. Be a credentialed NT practitioner or be a genetic counselor, licensed medical professional, or certified medical assistant associated with a credentialed NT practitioner.
  2. Complete the SIS NT Online Training (see links below).
  3. Sign the NT Oath of Confidentiality and send it to 510-412-1551 (fax) or Jamie.Matteson@cdph.ca.gov.
  4. If you are not an NT practitioner, have a credentialed NT practitioner sign and submit a Letter of Association to 510-412-1551 (fax) or Jamie.Matteson@cdph.ca.gov.
  5. If you are not an NT practitioner, you will be asked to verify that you are a genetic counselor, licensed medical professional, or certified medical assistant.
  6. Obtain a user ID and password to SIS (instructions at the end of the SIS NT Online Training).
