Planning and Data Analysis Section (PDAS)
PDAS is responsible for maintaining, analyzing, and distributing data needed for assessing the health status of Californians.
Key functions performed by PDAS include:
- Statistical analysis of data pertaining to key health status indicators for California's counties and production of related reports
- Production of master birth/death index files for public and law enforcement use
- Maintenance and distribution of OSHPD data files for CDPH and DHCS use
- Maintenance of the Vital Statistics Query System database
- Technical consultation for governmental programs, county health departments, and the public on uses of California's health indicator data
- Coordination of the decennial revisions of vital event certificates in conjunction with federal revisions and the recommendations of California's stakeholders
- Development and implementation of research projects involving linkage of confidential Vital Statistics (VS) and Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) data
- Assistance with planning and implementation of GIS capacity and functions
