Health care facilities in California are licensed, regulated, inspected, and/or certified by a number of public and private agencies at the state and federal levels, including the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Licensing and Certification program (L&C) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). L&C also oversees the certification of Nurse Assistants, Home Health Aides, Hemodialysis Technicians, and the licensing of Nursing Home Administrators.

Aide and Technician Certification

For information regarding certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Home Health Aide (HHA) or Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT), or to lodge a complaint, contact the Aide and Technician Certification Section (ATCS), CNA/HHA/CHT Certification Unit. Phone center hours are: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
