LHD Program Training and Fundamentals - FFY 2014

Description:  FFY 14 is quickly approaching with several updates to the Network’s program operations and requirements. To assist all local health departments with the changes, we have revised the comprehensive edition of the Program Training.  We are planning to take it “on the road” to provide you with up close and personal (and yes, fun) training.

This training can either be for new or seasoned staff involved with program planning and management. It includes information about the new role of the local lead agency, partnering, policy systems and environmental change processes, the Grant Agreement Scope of Work, new reporting requirements, and much more. 

If this training looks like it would be helpful for you and your staff, fill out the attached form and return to your Program Manager by September, 27, 2013.

Audience:  Primary: Project Coordinators / Secondary: Admin. Staff, Nutrition Educators

Level:  The training is designed for new LHDs, Network-funded staff or any LHD staff that would like a refresher.

Description:  The Contract Compliance Monitoring Unit will train local health departments staff and subcontractors fiscal and administrative requirements for the SNAP-Ed grant.  The training is a comprehensive, fiscal orientation covering the United States Department of Agriculture and Network requirements and guidelines.

Activity Tracking Form Training

Date & Time: Multiple (See registration dates below)

Description:  The FFY14 Activity Tracking Form (ATF) is a required document for all contractors conducting nutrition education or related activities.  Activities or events that need to be tracked include but are not limited to nutrition education, stakeholder meetings, material distribution, trainings, etc. the FFY14 ATF has been extensively modified from the FFY13 ATF including transitioning to an online system. Every person that needs access to the new online ATF will need to complete a training before receiving a username and password.  More information will be provided when the training dates are finalized.

Network Youth Engagement Training and Orientation

Description:  We welcome those working with Youth (ages 12-18) to join us for an interactive day of training.

The Network for a Healthy California (Network) Children and Youth Team is convening a series of trainings for Local Health Department grantees and their subcontractors who will be coordinating Network Youth Engagement Initiative Projects throughout the state.

Attendees will:

  • Receive an introduction to Youth-Led Participatory Action Research (YPAR)
  • Engage with tools and activities that support authentic youth engagement
  • Initiate the process of creating a plan for youth engagement in your communities
  • Learn skills in a train-the-trainer approach that can inspire youth leadership

CDPH SNAP-Ed LHD Project Directors' Meeting (PDM)

Meeting Registration and Networking will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Description:  At this meeting attendees will:

  • Hear about the work of the 5 SNAP-ED Implementing Agencies (i.e., California  Department of Food and Agriculture; California Department of Social Services; California  
    Department of Aging; University of California, Davis, CalFresh; and, California Department of Public Health)      

  • Have roundtable discussions on topics such as coordination, engaging strategic partners, and policy, systems and environmental change strategies

  • Learn how to connect local efforts with the NEOPB media/advertising campaign

  • Gather resources and materials from the NEOPB Resource Gallery

  • Hear inspirational examples of community and youth engagement

This meeting will replace the NEOP Statewide Collaborative (NSC) meeting and is an allowable expense per the FY14 USDA Guidance. The travel expenses should have been included in your FY14 budget.  If you didn’t request reimbursement in your budget and have questions about covering the cost of travel, etc., please contact Michele Fast using the contact information provided below.
