LHD Program Training and Fundamentals - FFY 2014

Description: FFY 14 is quickly approaching with several updates to the Network’s program operations and requirements. To assist all local health departments with the changes, we have revised the comprehensive edition of the Program Training. We are planning to take it “on the road” to provide you with up close and personal (and yes, fun) training.

This training can either be for new or seasoned staff involved with program planning and management. It includes information about the new role of the local lead agency, partnering, policy systems and environmental change processes, the Grant Agreement Scope of Work, new reporting requirements, and much more.

If this training looks like it would be helpful for you and your staff, fill out the attached form and return to your Program Manager.

Audience: Primary: Project Coordinators / Secondary: Admin. Staff, Nutrition Educators

Level: The training is designed for new LHDs, Network-funded staff or any LHD staff that would like a refresher.

An Overview of the SNAP-Ed Local Implementing Agency Forum (LIAF): Preparing attendees for success

Descritpion:  The purpose of the webinar is to provide attendees an overview of the goals and expectations of the February 27-28, 2014 SNAP-Ed Local Implementing Agency Forum.   All SNAP-Ed Local Implementing Agency staff that plan to attend the Forum are highly encouraged to join this webinar in order to prepare for the work ahead as we begin to design coordinated and collaborative SNAP-Ed efforts across California.  Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions in order to prepare for the Forum.  The webinar will cover: - The importance and vision of coordinated and collaborative SNAP-Ed efforts across California;  - The goals and expectations of the Forum;  - Agenda highlights and pertinent logistical information; and   - How to prepare prior to attending the Forum

Planning and Organizing a Fruit and Veggie Fest Event

Description: In this webinar, we'll prepare you to organize a successful Fruit and Veggie Fest event in your community.  Fruit and Veggie Fest takes place each May and provides an opportunity to reach a large number of direct and indirect contacts in a short amount of time.  Organizing a Fruit and Veggie Fest event can also bring media attention to your local NEOP efforts.

SNAP-Ed Local Implementing Agency Forum

Description: The SNAP-Ed Local Implementing Agency Forum is a collaborative effort amongst the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), CalFresh Nutrition Education and Outreach Bureau; the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch (NEOPB); the California Department of Aging (CDA); the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and the University of California, CalFresh Nutrition Education Program (UC CalFresh).  The purpose of the conference is to bring all five Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) Implementing Agencies and subcontractors together to increase coordination, cohesion and collaboration statewide and at the local level to maximize resources, expertise and impact so that eligible recipients of the SNAP-Ed increase their ability to make healthy food choices within a limited budget and choose physically active lifestyles.

Children's Power Play! and School/Afterschool Support

Description: LHDs have found it helpful to learn about what’s possible in the school and afterschool environments using Children’s Power Play! and/or other Network approved resources. Staff are available to assist LHDs by connecting them with children and youth resources, strategizing successful execution of grant deliverables related to school and afterschool environments, providing overview of successful intervention strategies, and assisting with trainings for Network grantees and subcontractors on materials and resources.
