About the Communicable Disease Emergency Response Branch (CDER)

Mission

The mission of the Communicable Disease Emergency Response Branch (CDER) is to 1) monitor reportable infectious diseases, emerging pathogens and unusual outbreaks and 2) prepare for infectious disease emergencies.

Strategic Goals

  1. Surveillance and epidemiologic investigation for respiratory and neurological diseases, emerging pathogens, and unusual outbreaks.
  2. Oversight of electronic surveillance for reportable infectious diseases.
  3. Investigation of emerging pathogens, and unusual events.
  4. Preparedness for infectious disease emergencies.
  5. Serves as medical and epidemiological liaison for VRDL.

Organization

CDER is a Branch of the Division of Communicable Disease Control, within the Center for Infectious Diseases.
