California Birth Defects Monitoring Program
MO-07-0128 CBDMP
Since 1982, the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program (CBDMP) has collected data on pregnancies, birth outcomes, and birth defects. In 2003, banking of blood samples from the Genetic Diseases Screening Program (GDSP) for pregnant women began. Soon, blood samples and data will be shared, with protection of patient confidentiality, with researchers worldwide – hoping to accelerate the discovery of some causes of birth defects and diseases. The CBDMP is funded through the State General Fund, Title V, and a special program fund.
