AIDS Medi-Cal Waiver Program
The AIDS Medi-Cal Waiver Program (MCWP) provides services designed to allow people with AIDS to remain in their homes, stabilize their health, improve their quality of life and avoid costly institutional care. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services §1915(c) Home and Community-Based Services Waiver Renewal Application
On September 29, 2016, the California Department of Health Care Services, on behalf of the CDPH MCWP, submitted the 1915(c) Home and Community-Based Wavier Application to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for review and approval. The new Waiver term will be effective January 1, 2017, and will run through December 31, 2021.
CMS is currently in the process of reviewing the Waiver Application. A link to the Waiver Application draft is provided below:

CMS has granted a temporary 60 day extension for the current 2012-2016 AIDS Waiver. This extension allows the Waiver to continue operating until March 1, 2017, in order to allow additional time for the state to finalize the Waiver Renewal Application process.

About this Program
MCWP provides comprehensive case management and direct care services at no cost to persons with HIV disease or AIDS as an alternative to nursing facility care or hospitalization. Case management incorporates a collaborative interdisciplinary team approach consisting of a nurse case manager and a social work case manager who work with the client and his/her physician, family, caregiver(s), and other service providers to determine and provide needed services.
