Local Ryan White Care Act Planning Councils
California Department of Public Health, Office of AIDS (CDPH/OA) is actively involved as members of local Ryan White Part A Planning Councils. There are nine of these councils throughout the state. Council membership is comprised of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A), representatives of the local and state health department(s), AIDS service organizations, and other interested community members. Each council reflects the demographic makeup of the epidemic in its jurisdiction with an emphasis on membership of PLWH/A. The councils are responsible for identifying the needs of PLWH/A, determining the gaps and barriers to service, prioritizing and allocating federal and state dollars. The CDPH/OA member is responsible for providing information about programs managed by the state and to update councils on issues related to HIV reporting, data collection, state budget, etc. This important function allows for greater collaboration and information exchange between CDPH/OA, the local councils, and the public. Meetings are held monthly and are open to the public. The public is encouraged to attend and public comment is part of each council’s agenda.
