The Stanford/VA Alzheimer's Center has been providing a range of services for over 17 years to individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias and their caregivers. The major goal has been to keep patients in the community and avoid or postpone institutionalization.
The Stanford University ARCC was established in 1989 and provides evaluations, ongoing support and consultation, and longitudinal research opportunities to increasing numbers of patients and their families. The Center serves as the Clinical Core for several large, long-term, ongoing research projects, including the Stanford Aging Clinical Research Center (ACRC). We are also the Clinical Core
and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) coordinating center for the dementia component of the VA National Headquarters-funded Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Care (MIRECC) endeavor, and the site for the VA centrally funded geriatric psychiatry fellows training program at Palo Alto. Both veterans and community patients and their families are seen at the Center.
